Why are you doing this? - I am looking for an enormous personal challenge. I want to see if I can withstand the intense physical effort, cold and strict routine in order to experience, I hope, an incredible feeling of achievement. Hasn’t it been done before? - Around 200 people have reached the South Pole overland since Amundsen and Scott in 1911, although only 7 have done it this way- alone and without support or re-supplies en-route. I’m not setting out to claim this is a unique journey, but it is pretty rare. What Experience do you need? - Six months ago, I had no experience at all of this kind of environment. I’ve since spent around 4 weeks in Greenland and Spitzbergen training so I hope that’s enough. I will certainly come across situations I’ve not been in before, so that will be a challenge. How dangerous is it? - The two biggest dangers will be hypothermia and crevasses. Being alone, it’s obviously much harder to realise when you’ve overdone it, or become too tired, and start to become hypothermic, and if I can’t get my tent up and inside, I’ll be in trouble. Can I follow your progress on this website? - Yes, the site will be updated frequently with news from me and my position each day.
